5185834_blogThere’s a bit of a dark cloud surrounding root canal treatment and many people are filled with fear if the words root and canal are mentioned during a dental visit. In reality, root canal treatment is really nothing to be frightened about and if you do need this procedure, you can rest assured that you’re in the best hands at Aqua Dental Spa.

So, what’s the truth about root canal treatment?

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure that is called upon when a tooth is severely damaged or infected and the pulp tissue is affected. The pulp contains the living tissue of the tooth and once it is damaged or decayed, the tooth starts to die and the blood supply is cut. The risk of abscesses and further infection is subsequently increased and usually the only alternative to root canal treatment is extraction.

Before you have root canal treatment, your tooth will be numbed completely, so you won’t feel any pain during the procedure. We simply encourage you to lie back and relax.

To reach the root canals, we drill into the tooth and set about clearing away the damaged pulp tissue. Once we have done this, we clean the root canals to make sure they are completely free from diseased tissue and then seal them using dental material known as gutta percha. Sealing the root canals helps to prevent infection from spreading. We may also fit a new crown over the tooth to help to protect it. Crowns are custom-made to fit the tooth perfectly and we are able to offer same-day crowns using Cerec or handmade crowns, which usually take around 2 weeks.

If you have a decayed tooth and you’ve been advised to consider root canal treatment, call us now and we will go through the treatment process and the ins and outs of the procedure with you. We promise that there is nothing to worry about and we’ll be here every step of the way to ensure that you are comfortable and relaxed.
