About dental crowns

Dental crowns are sometimes called caps because they are placed over the natural tooth. They are usually recommended when a tooth is damaged by injury or weakened by decay. If you have a very large cavity, a fractured tooth or an infected tooth, a crown can help to strengthen the tooth and prevent it from suffering any further damage. You may also be advised to have a new crown following root canal or implant treatment.

Crowns are commonly made from ceramics including porcelain to create stunning, natural looking aesthetics. We can also use metal to reinforce ceramic crowns. Providing that they are well cared-for, crowns should last around 5-10 years.

We are very lucky to have Cerec technology on site, which allows us to design and fit new crowns in a single day. You can choose from one-day treatment or hand-crafted crowns, which take around 2 weeks.

About dental bridges

Dental bridges are a convenient and effective solution for patients who have a missing tooth. They are made from a prosthetic tooth supported by a crown on each side. Bridges, like crowns, can be made from various materials including ceramics and treatment usually involves 2 sessions, which are 2 weeks apart. Bridges are custom-made based on an impression of your teeth and they are secured using strong adhesive. Once they are in place, they can only be removed by a dentist. Bridges should last up to 15 years provided that they are looked after properly.

Which treatment is best for me?

If you have a missing tooth, a bridge is the best option. If you have an infected, damaged or decayed tooth and your dentist thinks that it would be possible to restore the tooth, a crown would be beneficial. Your dentist will explain your treatment options to you during your appointment. They will of course, be willing to answer any questions you have as well.
