If halitosis is getting you down, we are here to help! With our incredible oral hygiene treatments and expert advice, we’ll help you banish bad breath for good.

What causes halitosis?

Halitosis is caused by oral bacteria that give off unpleasant-smelling gases when they feed. It is most commonly associated with poor oral hygiene and can also result from taking some types of medication and eating specific foods. It’s very common to suffer from bad breath on a temporary basis, especially in the morning and after eating foods with strong flavours. However, if you have bad breath on a regular basis or you suffer with a persistent problem, it’s a good idea to see your dentist. Many cases of bad breath are associated specifically with bacteria that have collected at the back of the tongue. Smoking is another common cause of bad breath.

What can I do?

If you only suffer from bad breath after eating, it may be worth keeping a food diary to ascertain which flavours are causing you problems. Once you know the triggers, you can try and avoid these foods. It’s also a good idea to chew sugar-free chewing gum after eating.

If you have persistent bad breath, there is a good chance that poor oral hygiene is to blame and we can offer advice to help you improve oral hygiene at home and treatments to provide a powerful clean that will remove plaque and tartar and help to refresh your mouth. We often recommend a series of dental hygiene sessions for patients with halitosis and we can also have a look at your current oral hygiene regime and make suggestions to remedy the issue. The cleaning treatments we provide are much more intensive than brushing with a normal toothbrush and they really blitz the mouth, getting rid of harmful bacteria and making your mouth feel really clean.

If you are struggling with bad breath, don’t suffer in silence. We are here to help!
