4443553_blogNothing is worse than a sleepless night when you’re hurrying around trying to finish off a to-do list as long as your arm in the run-up to the festive season. If you snore or you live with a snorer and it’s disturbing your sleep patterns, we can help to restore silence in your home and enable you to get some good quality sleep to set you up for the party season!

What causes snoring?

The actual noise you hear when somebody snores is made by the soft tissue at the back of the throat vibrating. Snoring is usually associated with risk factors such as allergies, being overweight and smoking, but it can also be caused by sleeping position, illness and drinking alcohol. If you snore occasionally, when you’re feeling poorly or you’ve been on a night out, there’s probably nothing to worry about. However, if you snore on a regular basis, this may be a sign that your body isn’t getting enough oxygen and it’s worth seeing your dentist or GP to see if anything can be done to help you to sleep better.

If you snore, it’s worth making a few simple changes to see if they have a positive impact, such as ensuring that you sleep on your side rather than your back, avoiding drinking alcohol in the evenings and losing weight if you are overweight. Often, these changes can make a huge difference.

How we can help snoring

If you snore on a regular basis and the changes recommended above have had no effect, we may be able to offer a solution. We can provide specially designed mandibular advancement devices that are designed to move the jaw forward slightly to increase airflow. These devices are not painful and they are moulded to fit you, so you should find them comfortable.
