Mouth cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer in the UK, with more than 6,000 new cases diagnosed every year. In the last decade, there has been a significant increase in the number of people affected by mouth cancer and at Aqua Dental Spa, we are eager to do everything we can to raise awareness of this deadly disease and ensure that any cases are spotted and treated as early as possible.
We offer mouth cancer screening, which enables our dentists to spot early warning signs that may not be visible to the naked eye. The earlier mouth cancer is diagnosed, the better, as early treatment has a much greater chance of success.
About mouth cancer
Mouth cancer is a form of cancer, which affects the soft tissue in the mouth and throat. The main precursors for mouth cancer include the usual suspects smoking, alcohol but also HPV (human papilloma virus) infection. Symptoms of mouth cancer include a persistent sore throat, ulcers than take a long time to heal (longer than 2 weeks), red or white patches in the mouth and abnormal swelling, which may make it more difficult to swallow.
Why is mouth cancer screening so important?
Mouth cancer screening can be the difference between life and death because it picks up the very early signs of changes in the oral tissue. Like many forms of cancer, the quicker mouth cancer is detected, the higher the chance of survival, as cancer can spread throughout the body. Screening enables dentists to detect cancer at an early stage when it is much more treatable.
As well as mouth cancer screening, we also recommend regular dental check-ups, as our dentists also look for signs of mouth cancer as part of your routine dental check.
