Bad breath can be an embarrassing problem, but if you’re a sufferer there’s no need to feel ashamed. At Aqua Dental Spa, we have many years of experience in treating cases of halitosis and we could help you to banish bad breath for good.
Why have I got bad breath?
In the majority of cases, bad breath is linked to poor oral hygiene, as it caused by gases released by bacteria in the mouth. These gases are released when bacteria feed and smell unpleasant. In most cases, bacteria are found at the back of the tongue. Other possible causes include taking some types of medication, smoking and eating certain strongly flavoured foods.
Tackling bad breath
If you find that you have bad breath on a frequent basis, it may be worth keeping a diary of what you eat and drink to see if there are any clear triggers. Strongly flavoured foods and drinks such as garlic, spices, coffee and onions, are common triggers. Avoiding triggers is one way to reduce the risk of bad breath and we also recommend chewing sugar-free gum after eating for people who have food-related bad breath.
Good oral hygiene is the best weapon against halitosis and we strongly recommend keeping to a good daily oral hygiene routine at home and taking steps to ensure that your mouth is as clean as possible. Ideally, you should brush every morning and evening for at least 2 minutes and floss or use inter-dental brushes daily. We also recommend using a tongue cleaner.
