Mini dental implants

What are dental implants and how do they work?

Our implant surgeons implant titanium screws into the jawbone, where they act like natural tooth roots for missing teeth.

As the titanium screw in the implant fuses with the jawbone, the implants will be highly secure and will never slip, make noise or cause any bone damage in the way that bridgework or dentures might.

They are the most robust and most beneficial form of restorative dentistry available – known to last more than 25 years; implants do not decay your teeth and promote stronger oral health.

Implants will be right for you if you have enough bone to secure them and wish to replace conventional dentures with something more fixed and permanent.

Why implant surgery is necessary

There can be consequences for patients who ignore a missing tooth or decide not to get an implant.

Choosing to delay, ignore or wait can cause oral health concerns like bone reduction, facial sagging, gum disease, tooth decay and future tooth loss.

And this can happen quickly; for example, within six months of losing a tooth, your jawbone would have already begun to break down significantly, putting extra pressure on remaining teeth and causing facial muscles to sag.

how implants work

What’s the procedure like for dental implants?

Dental implant surgery is often performed as an outpatient surgery in stages with plenty of healing time (osseointegration) in between. Surgery is often carried out under a local anaesthetic and is reported by our patients as feeling alike to tooth extraction.

The process of placing an implant can vary, as some patients might require sinus lifts or bone grafts, but as a general overview the multiple steps often include:

  • Damaged tooth removal
  • Preparation of the jawbone and grafting when applicable
  • The placement of the dental implants
  • Bone growth and healing period (three months)
  • The placement of the abutment and finally, the artificial tooth

The entire process can take several months from start to finish, with much of the time being devoted to healing or waiting for new bone growth, which is essential in ensuring your implant placement is a success. Patients looking for something more immediate can turn to Mini-dental implants or All on 4.

Choosing your new artificial teeth

During a consultation, you can decide with one of our restorative specialists which type of artificial teeth will work for you; removable or fixed.

Removable options:

Can either be partial or full dentures, where the artificial white teeth are surrounded by pink plastic gums and mounted on a metal frame that’s attached to the implant abutment and then, snapping securely into place.

Implant retained dentures: These overdentures are often the next best thing to a mouth full of real teeth and use implants to secure dentures firmly into place. More.

Fixed options

Here, the artificial tooth is permanently screwed (or cemented) onto an implant abutment – this means you will not be able to remove the tooth for cleaning or to go to sleep. It will look and function just like a natural tooth would as we use porcelain crowns to attach to the dental implant.

As implants are incredibly strong, there is also the option to replace several with one implant when they are bridged together. An Implant-supported bridge works in the same way as dental bridges, where they are supported by implants rather than natural teeth. More.

Remember, regardless of the procedure you choose, your new teeth will not be able to be placed until the jawbone is strong enough to support them.

Cost of dental implants

Here at Aqua Dental’s clinic in London, we understand that not every mouth is the same – and not every missing tooth case either. We quote our implant prices during a consultation because we truly try to find the best solution that works for you and your budget.

We could use a mixture of treatments and methods or opt for conventional treatments. The choice will be up to you once one of our implantologists examine your mouth – it would be unfair of us to provide direct quotes for treatment without considering if your oral condition requires any pre-implant procedures.

As an indication, you can expect to pay from £2,800 per implant for single tooth loss, but we’ve carried out work with some patients who were able to spread the cost of their payments using interest-free finance, often paying around £52 per month.

HOW MUCH DOES AN IMPLANT COST FOR ONE TOOTH? The average cost of a single tooth implant can vary – patients should expect the price to be from £2,800 with many of our patients paying on average £52 a month. A price will be given to you following a consultation to determine whether any other pre-implant procedures might be necessary.
HOW LONG DO TOOTH IMPLANTS LAST? The implant screw itself will last a lifetime. The crown, however, may last anywhere from 15-25 years before it might need a replacement due to wear and tear. Porcelain crowns, which are more expensive tend to be more resilient and longer lasting.
HOW LONG DOES A DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE TAKE? The surgery itself typically takes around 1-2 hours for each implant to be placed.
WHO IS NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS? Not everyone is a viable candidate for implants – the most common reason being to do with the bone. Patients with missing teeth tend to experience a lack of jawbone density, which keeps deteriorating over time – and it’s this bone loss that can prevent you from having implants. Smokers are also usually advised to give up smoking if they want implants.
DO TEETH IMPLANTS HURT? Patients can expect to feel sore after placement when the anaesthesia wears off. However, as this begins to heal patients will not experience any pain or discomfort regarding their implant, which will act as a natural tooth root.
HOW SOON AFTER EXTRACTION CAN I HAVE AN IMPLANT? If there is healthy jawbone present, it is possible to place an implant the same day the tooth had been extracted. However, there are situations where the dentist might recommend waiting 3-6 months after a tooth extraction to allow the site to heal.
HOW LONG DOES PAIN LAST AFTER TOOTH IMPLANT? Pain from an implant usually subsides in most cases within 3-5 days. By the end of the first week post-surgery, you will feel little, if any discomfort or pain.
ARE TOOTH IMPLANTS WORTH IT? It’s in our professional opinion that dental implants are not only worth the time, but the expense if you have a gap in your mouth. Implants provide a strong foundation for permanent as well as removable teeth.
DOES INSURANCE COVER TOOTH IMPLANTS? Basic insurance policies do not typically cover the cost of dental implants, however, it’s worth looking into cosmetic dental procedure coverage, which will cover the cost of a portion of the procedure. Insurance coverage in these cases is often 50% of the cost.
WHAT IS THE CHEAPEST WAY TO REPLACE A MISSING TOOTH? Dentures are undoubtedly the cheapest aesthetic tooth replacement, however, that does not mean they are the best or recommended solution in modern dentistry today. They are the cheapest because they take the least amount of time to create – there are no experts involved, no dental crowns to place and no surgery.
DO DENTAL IMPLANTS GET CAVITIES? No, dental implants do not get cavities, that is because they are not actually real teeth – they are made from titanium.
CAN FRONT TEETH BE IMPLANTED? Absolutely. Dental implants are widely considered to be the number one solution to replace missing front teeth.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN TEETH AFTER IMPLANTS? Implants require no special maintenance, you need to care for them just like you would with normal teeth; by brushing, flossing, and attending regular dental check-ups.
WHAT CAN YOU NOT DO AFTER AN IMPLANT? Our implant surgeons advise that you avoid any strenuous activities the first few days following surgery. Plus, we highly advise to quit smoking, or to eliminate for a minimum of two weeks.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR IMPLANTS TO HEAL? It is completely normal for patients to return to work the day after the implant procedure, and even in other cases, the same day. Over-the-counter medications are perfectly adequate to alleviate any discomfort.

I was looking to have a dental implant to replace a back tooth which neeed to be extracted after a root infection . I did a lot of research on the internet and saw lots of positive reviews about Dr Maini . From the moment I met Dr Maini he was thoroughly professional and courteous and very knowledgeable. He explained my treatment in detail and his clinic had all the latest equipment such as a 3D Xray scanner. During the treatment , Dr Maini’s friendly caring manner put me at ease and I was surprised how little discomfort I felt after the implant procedure , I didn’t even need to take a pain killer !
I now have my crown attached to the implant and the tooth feels normal , looks natural and feels totally comfortable . I couldn’t recommend this clinic any higher I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Christina Gold

Finished my treatment today with Dr Maini. Very efficient and helpful!
My teeth are looking great and I cannot stop smiling.
Thank you Dr Maini and Alla on reception for a great experience!

Susanne

Wow! I don't know where to begin. From the minute I walked in my journey with Monika (hygienist) and Dr Maini (dentist) has been incredible. I've had a massive phobia of needles for years and seen numerous therapists to help overcome this but have failed . Monika and Dr Maini have cured this phobia now. I cannot find the words to describe how amazing they have both been with me. On separate visits to each of them they explained everything in detail and answered all my concerns. Their patience and understanding has been unbelievable. There are no words in the dictionary that can describe my sincerest gratitude to them both for helping me overcome my fear completely. I had an injection today by Dr Maini who used the wand on me and I didn't realise he'd done it !!!! I did not feel a single thing .
Mei (dental nurse) and Annie (receptionist) have also been amazing with me.
If anyone has a fear of dentists please please give these guys a go . They are so professional and I can't recommend them enough.
