Confused about cosmetic dentistry options?

Ultrathin Veneers The Thinnest Veneers

Also referred to as no-prep veneers, Ultrathin veneers require no shaving of the natural teeth, which means the tooth tissue beneath the veneer’s surface is not weakened as most of the tooth tissue is kept intact.

A popular choice of veneer systems due to their non-bulky features, Ultrathin veneers consistently provide excellent results. They only require 0.3mm of enamel to be removed from the tooth’s surface to apply.

The benefit of this minimally invasive treatment? It typically lasts longer as the tooth structure is not weakened. Lasting up to 20 years, the Ultrathin veneer system is often the go-to choice for patients looking for a more attractive, balanced smile.

As the name suggests, Ultrathin veneers are significantly, extremely thin.

No bulky options here!

Due to technological developments in cosmetic dentistry and a shift in ceramic materials, veneer systems and techniques have advanced to such a level that compromising the underlying tooth structure is no longer necessary.

We can make very, very thin porcelain shells to remove the need for extensive enamel filing, as often seen in scary YouTube videos.

In addition, this method means that these ‘fake teeth’ do not appear bulky or unnatural.

The development of this minimally invasive procedure has reduced the amount of damage to the tooth structure and preserved the tooth’s original enamel.

Ultrathin veneers are not just thinner, but stronger

Made from IPS e.max lithium disilicate, Ultrathin veneers have a strength of 500 MPa and a 2.0-2.5 MPA, 1-/2 fracture toughness, which means that even though they are paper-thin, they have the strength to work with the bite force of the mouth.

Crafted from Emax, which is a form of layered porcelain means that this type of veneer has translucent, light-reflecting properties that mimic natural teeth perfectly.

The Ultrathin process

When it comes to having incredibly thin veneers applied, you don’t just want any dentist to attempt the procedure.

As the application procedure is very intricate, a highly experienced cosmetic dentist confident in using thin veneer systems is required.

For example, practice founder and cosmetic dentist Dr Neera Maini has undergone further training to offer porcelain veneer procedures at Aqua Dental and is a highly recognised member of the BACD and BDA.

Aqua Dental provide exceptional standards of cosmetic dentistry for London patients. We pride ourselves on the quality of care we offer, our affordability, and our unmatched attention to our patient’s needs and wishes.

Dr Maini always puts patients first; combining her technical expertise with a friendly, personalised approach, she consistently receives five-star reviews for helping patients take the bold step toward their dream smile.

But is Ultrathin really as great as claimed?

With all procedures, there are limitations, pros and cons.

With Ultrathin veneers, the main advantage is that teeth do not need to be shaved and no anaesthetic is required, which is great for patients suffering from dental anxiety or phobias.

However, as cosmetic dentists, we truly prefer to take a bespoke approach, where we tackle each treatment on a case-specific basis – this is because we want to provide you with the longest-lasting solution for your lifestyle and your teeth, rather than providing a one-size model that does not work for everyone.
