Why is dental hygiene important?
Seeing as the main two major causes of tooth loss are tooth decay and gum disease, it would make perfect sense to visit a hygienist regularly. With good dental hygiene, you can avoid these conditions and protect your oral health for years to come.
The Preventative Approach
When it comes to the health of your teeth and gums, prevention is always better than cure, and at least twice-yearly dental check-ups with Aqua Dental Clinic are recommended.
While at-home oral hygiene habits are crucial, even the most careful of routines can see problems arise from time to time.
Dr Neera Maini uses state-of-the-art technology to spot dental issues which may be hard to spot at home – treating them well before they become a problem.
Aqua Dental Clinic uses state-of-the-art facilities, including magnifying cameras to show the teeth and gums from every angle on a large computer screen.
An oral cancer screening is part of each routine check-up.
Scale. Polish. Smile!
Dental therapists and hygienists provide a scale and polish treatment to leave your teeth completely clean – even below the gum line where your toothbrush doesn’t reach.
They also offer a range of preventative treatments to keep your teeth healthy and strong.
Our dental hygienists are specially trained to look after the health of our patient’s teeth and gums.
They use the very latest dental technology to clean and polish, removing any build-up of tartar or plaque left behind after flossing and brushing.
Contact UsProphyflex Power Clean
Patients often can’t believe how smooth and clean their teeth feel after experiencing Aqua Dental Clinic’s high-tech Prophyflex cleaning system.
The power cleaner fires a concentrated stream of compressed air, water, and tiny sodium bicarbonate particles to remove debris and polish teeth simultaneously.
Minor stains can also be removed, leaving teeth cleaner and brighter.
Our hygienists are also keen to offer hints and tips on maintaining oral health at home.
Setting New Standards in a Comforting Environment
Nothing should stop you from treating dental problems as quickly as possible to prevent issues from developing – ignoring only results in more problems, more pain and more money spent. That’s why we’ve taken great care to create an environment that makes you feel fantastic from the moment you step through the door.
So, if you’ve always been anxious about visiting the dentist, it’s time to think again.
In the care of Dr Neera Maini, a visit is no longer a stressful ordeal.
In fact, with multimedia relaxation facilities, aromatherapy and treatment by a phobia-certified practitioner with more than 20 years of experience, the reality is probably more pleasant than you could ever imagine.

- Standard clean: Leaves teeth cleaner, and prevents gum disease and loss of teeth.
- “AirFlow” Premium Clean: Leads to healthier gums, reduces bleeding gums and removes stains, leaving teeth brighter and whiter.
- What Is AirFlow Stain Removal: Using a jet of compressed air, water and particles of bicarbonate, we can use AirFlow to polish the teeth gently and remove any surface stains. It’s a method preferred by patients with severe staining, smokers or those who suffer from darker teeth genetically. Stains from tobacco, tea, coffee, curry and wine can all be eradicated.

Contact UsWhat happens at our hygienist appointments?
- Hygienists offer professional teeth cleaning services, scaling and polishing.
- We will carry out an initial dental hygiene exam when visiting our practice.
- We’ll offer tailored advice on maintaining good dental health and demonstrate and impart some expert techniques you can use at home.
- We can spot early signs of gum disease, so we can advise on the changes that need to be made early on or refer you to a periodontist to see if we can nip it in the bud right then and there.
How often should you visit a dental hygienist?
We understand that most of our patients are very busy people with their own lives, and most of the time, visiting the dentist for a simple hygiene appointment seems to be the last priority.
However, sparing 30 minutes every few months can significantly affect your oral condition and health.
Our dentists recommend that you visit hygienists for a thorough clean before progressing with other dental treatments like implants or veneers.
However, we would recommend seeing us every three months or so for general check-ups.
The problem with plaque
When plaque solidifies, it turns to tartar, and removal requires the use of specialist hygiene equipment. Our hygienists are trained to eliminate tartar and ensure your teeth are clean both above and below the gum line.
Bacteria found in plaque produce acids after eating and drinking, and these acids are known to destroy tooth enamel and cause problems like gingivitis and cavities.
If not safely removed, the danger is that plaque can develop under the gums on the tooth roots and start to break down the vital bone structure that supports teeth.
If left untreated, plaque will harden and turn into tough-to-remove tartar, encouraging gums to pull away from teeth leaving black triangular pockets.

PATIENTS ARE TALKING ABOUT AQUA DENTAL CLINIC
Hear what they’re saying belowEasily the best dental practise I've ever been to. The staff were friendly and extremely knowledgable compared to my previous experience. It felt like they were genuinely interested in getting my teeth and gums as healthy as possible. They did a full X-Ray of my jaw that revealed a wisdom tooth issue that no other dentist had caught, and my hygiene appointment was free of the usually pain. I can't recommend them enough.
Dr Maini has been our wonderful dentist for over 10 years. The team at Aqua Dental Clinic is extremely helpful and always there in an emergency. With practical tips our dental health has really improved and we now have much fewer problems than before. However with new technology and expert advice even the most complicated treatment has been a good experience and offers exceptional value for money. I don’t have good teeth and always tried to avoid going to the dentist until I met Dr Maini. Highly recommend this outstanding practice.
Wow! I don't know where to begin. From the minute I walked in my journey with Monika (hygienist) and Dr Maini (dentist) has been incredible. I've had a massive phobia of needles for years and seen numerous therapists to help overcome this but have failed . Monika and Dr Maini have cured this phobia now. I cannot find the words to describe how amazing they have both been with me. On separate visits to each of them they explained everything in detail and answered all my concerns. Their patience and understanding has been unbelievable. There are no words in the dictionary that can describe my sincerest gratitude to them both for helping me overcome my fear completely. I had an injection today by Dr Maini who used the wand on me and I didn't realise he'd done it !!!! I did not feel a single thing . Mei (dental nurse) and Annie (receptionist) have also been amazing with me. If anyone has a fear of dentists please please give these guys a go . They are so professional and I can't recommend them enough.
Aqua Dental clinic is a nice clinic with highly esteemed staff. The staff are also professional and friendly! Doctor Anoop Maini has been my dentist since 2014, I was referred to him through a friend. Irrespective of the referral, I had conducted my own due diligence and researched on Doctor Maini before taking the decision to meet with him at his previous clinic. Dr Maini’s reputation precedes him as I am a dentist phobic patient he and his teams have helped me receive the treatment I needed. Monika Patel a great Hygienst, who also provides incredible care on how to deal with similar patients like myself. Aqua Dental is an excellent clinic where your dental health comes first and you’re treated with the utmost care. Take it from an extremely nervous patient! I would definitely recommend this clinic.
