With Invisalign, you do not need to undergo long and arduous appointments - the entire process is designed to be swift, accurate and convenient.
Assessing your suitability
The first step in the Invisalign process is the initial consultation.
This will be our opportunity to examine your oral condition and assess whether you can qualify for Invisalign or if we will need to suggest alternative discreet straightening methods.
Whilst Invisalign promises excellent results, it’s not always well suited to patients who require severe orthodontic work.
But it is also your chance to learn more about the process and whether Invisalign is right for you.
Bespoke moulds and custom-fitting
Once you’re happy to progress, we’ll get the ball rolling immediately.
Our Platinum Elite Invisalign dentist, Dr Maini, will take photos, x-rays and take scans of your teeth and jaw – this is where you’ll truly begin to experience the difference with Invisalign.
Invisalign uses advanced technology and software that allow for more accurate planning.
- Using the iTero scanner, we will take thousands of images of your smile within minutes – this will enable us to map out exactly how your smile will transform at each stage of the treatment.
- Using the smile simulator and ClinCheck software means we can take all the guesswork out of adult braces. For example, patients can see what their finished smiles will look like and make changes and tweaks.
Usually, this is the only mould we will need as you will receive your new aligners as you go without the need to take new images or see us again. The only time you will go through the process again is when the dentist is not happy with the treatment’s progress.
Wear your aligners
We’ll send the treatment plan and diagnostics to the specialist Invisalign lab, where Invisalign doctors will manufacture your custom aligners.
Even this process is faster as we upload them digitally and do not have to worry about delays often caused by posting.
Within a few weeks, you will receive your aligners in trays, and you’ll be ready to wear them and begin treatment.
The likely process involves changing your aligner trays every two to three weeks to keep moving your teeth into their successive gradual positions.
Then over the next few months, you will come in and visit us for a check-up so we can monitor your progress, pick up your next set of aligners and be ready to go once again.
The amazing results
And once you have completed your last set of trays, you’re done! Depending on your case, some patients will receive a removable retainer to wear at night to prevent the risk of retention.
However, if you’re the kind of person who tends to forget their retainer, we can always help you qualify for a permanent retainer instead.
And that’s it – see how easy Invisalign can be?
In terms of treatment length, this can vary case by case.
As Invisalign has different systems, your treatment length will depend on which one is the best for you. Treatment times can take from three to eighteen months.
When first putting in a new aligner, you can expect the aligner to feel snug as it fits tightly over your teeth – this is because it is built to put pressure on your teeth to make them move.
You will have to wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day for the treatment to be effective – and for the fastest results.
The two hours a day you don’t wear your aligner are reserved for eating, drinking and brushing.
When you have your aligners on, do not eat or drink anything other than cold water.
Any food and drink will stain the aligner and you don’t want to discolour them if you want to ensure they stay transparent.
Taking care of your aligners and teeth
The one thing with Invisalign is that it takes commitment and dedication.
On top of taking your aligners out to eat and drink, you will be required to brush your teeth after every meal.
Whilst you’re doing this, it will also be a good idea to wash your aligner with lukewarm water and give it a quick brush with toothpaste.
Again, this is to prevent your aligners from staining – and whilst this may seem like a pain, patients see such an increase in their oral health and the state of their teeth following treatment.
And this can only mean that you’ll smile even brighter when you’re done.
